Dr. Rina Shinn of Adonis Cosmetic Surgery & Spa is available to help women suffering from severe PMS menopause, and perimenopause, including: hot flashes, night sweats, memory loss, mood swings, weight gain, and low libido.

Men experiencing male menopause (andropause) who want to get a grip on weight gain, lost libido, fatigue, stress, energy, muscle mass, and body fat are also finding solutions through Adonis Cosmetic Surgery & Spa’s natural hormone therapy.

Dr. Shinn of Adonis Cosmetic Surgery & Spa in Pueblo, CO provides Hormone Replacement Therapy by Pellet Implantation.  Pellets are superior to any other form (oral, sublingual, cream, gel, or injection) due to their gradual and consistent release of the hormone.

Hormone Therapy has been shown to improve lethargy, depression, loss of libido, hot flashes, improve insomnia, sex drive, libido, night sweats, palpitations, headaches, irritability, depression, memory loss, aches, pains, bladder problems (incontinence), and vaginal dryness.

During the initial consultation, a comprehensive history will be taken to assess the hormonal state of the patient. Saliva or blood tests (hormone panel) are used to assess your unique hormonal needs.

What are Pellets?
Pellets, or implants are made up of hormones (i.e. testosterone) that are pressed or fused into very small solid cylinders. These pellets are larger than a grain of rice and smaller than a ‘Tic Tac’.

Why pellets?
Pellets deliver consistent, healthy levels of hormones for 3-4 months in women and 4-5 months in men. They avoid the fluctuations, or ups and downs, of hormone levels seen with every other method of delivery.

This is important for optimal health and disease prevention. Pellets do not increase the risk of blood clots like conventional or synthetic hormone replacement therapy.

Oral pills and creams are not as effective, since the hormones are subjected to first transit through the digestive system where liver can be overwhelmed and unpredictable amount of hormone is released to the end organs.

In studies, when compared to conventional hormone replacement therapy, pellets have been shown to be superior for relief of menopausal symptoms, maintenance of bone density, restoration of sleep patterns, and improvement in sex drive, libido, sexual response and performance.

How and where are pellets inserted?
The insertion of pellets is a simple (only 2 – 5 minutes required), relatively painless procedure done under local anesthesia. The pellets are usually inserted in the lower abdominal wall or upper buttocks through a small incision. This allows the body to self regulate how much hormone is to be released and slowly dissolves away over a few months. Patients need to repeat their injections every 3 to 6 months, depending on their needs.

The pellets do not need to be removed. They completely dissolve on their own.

How long until a patient feels better after pellets are inserted?

Some patients begin to ‘feel better’ within 24-48 hours while others may take a week or two to notice a difference. Diet and lifestyle, along with hormone balance are critical for optimal health. Stress is a major contributor to hormone imbalance and illness.

Read Dr. Shinn’s own testimony about personally benefiting from Hormone Replacement Therapy…

“I was battling with the hormonal changes that came with age.

The personality changes as well as other associated symptoms, such as difficulty sleeping, diminished memory, mood swings, and lack of interests in many things were quite concerning.
When I was offered hormone replacement casually, I realized that this was a field of medicine that my traditional training did not focus much on.

I had to learn about the aging process, anti-age medicine, and bioidentical hormone replacement therapy.

With the correct replacement of hormones, I recovered the person who got lost in the maize of all the hormonal changes.

My husband remarked “Where have you been? I couldn’t recognize you for the past year.”

It was so reassuring to realize that I had the vitality and zeal for life again and that I didn’t have to accept the unrecognizable, “changed person” as my inevitable consequence of aging.”

Possible Adverse Reactions
Although HRT is a minor procedure, it has the following possible risks as well as testosterone related risks.

  • Bleeding which usually responds to tight pressure holding.
  • Possile infection that might require antibiotics use.
  • Pain at the time of procedure or afterwards (although most people find it almost painless for the insertion and only minor discomfort afterwards, everyone’s pain perception is different.)
  • Possible dislodging of the pellets especially if resuming heavy exercise too quickly.
  • Dosage related side effects such as acne, hair growth or hair loss, voice deepening, enlargement of sex organ (but these usually go away once testosterone pellet is used up.)
