  2. Skincare Tips You Haven’t Already Heard

    August 11, 2010 by lbittenbender

    face-massage-photo1

We found a helpful blog article by Dr. Obagi.

Certain skincare tips, like drinking plenty of water, are now common knowledge. But, every once in a while you come across a true treasure. The kind of rare tip you haven’t heard before but wish someone told you years ago. They usually come up when you least expect it, but we decided to go looking for them. We asked our Facebook and Twitter followers to share the best, rarely-heard-before skincare tips and they answered with some treasures. Take a look:

    1. Liz says DON’T drink with a straw. When you tighten your lips to suck from a straw, you’re using the same muscles it takes to smoke a cigarette. And, we all know what smokers’ lips, and the wrinkles around them, look like.

    2. Victoria recommends you DO use a hands-free headset for your cell phone. Think about it. If your cell phone is ridden with makeup and oils after a long call, guess what transferred to your face? Bacteria, acne’s faithful ally.

    3. Dawn advises you DO apply more sunscreen to the left side of your face and upper body. Not because she has something against your right side, but because she realizes we spend a good chunk of time in our cars. And where does the sun hit us when we’re behind the wheel? You guessed it, our left sides.

    4. Teresa suggests you DO cut your TE Pads in half. The faithful ZO Skin Health customer does this to make them last longer and thus gets more bang for her buck. You know what they say, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” Kudo

s to Teresa for coming up with this one.

    5. Xavier thinks women who DON’T own a magnifying mirror are doing their skin and themselves a favor. Looking at our pores that close-up can cause unnecessary obsession and, in many cases, lead to picking, prodding and popping. Put the magnifying mirror away. Your skin, and sanity, will thank you.

  3. 8 Ways To Prevent Wrinkles

    July 20, 2010 by lbittenbender

    1. Avoid the sun or at least use a sunscreen during the day. UV Rays age your skin. Sunning yourself is the surest way to get wrinkles before your time.

    2. Quit smoking. Smoking ages you. A smoker has more wrinkles than a non smoker of the same age. Take a look at a heavy smoker in her forties (sans face lift/Botox) and you’ll see the skin damage.

    3. Aim to get at least 8 hours of sleep at night. Your body (including your skin) regenerates itself at night. Skip your sleep and you’ll age faster.

    4. Botox. Used occasionally and skillfully, Botox can be used as a preventative measure on fine lines that are just beginning to develop.

    5. Use a good moisturizer day and night for your skin type. Look at the ingredients list. Hyaluronic acid’s a potent moisturizer that really hydrates your skin. AHAs slough off the old, dead skin, revealing the younger skin beneath. Antioxidants like vitamins A, C, E, pycnogenol, green tea neutralize the free radicals that age your skin.

    6. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. Besides putting moisturizer on your face, internal hydration will help keep your skin supple and healthy.

    7. Eat a variety of skin healthy foods. Walnuts and olive oil are excellent for dry skin. Antioxidant foods that stop free radicals from damaging the cells of your body include tomatoes (they contain lycopene) and blueberries. Red peppers have loads of Vitamin A and Vitamin E, as well as bioflavonoids, which moisturize and heal the skin. Also rich in antioxidants, kale contains iron that helps bring oxygen to the skin and vitamin A that wards off premature aging. And finally, salmon contains a high amount of omega-3 fatty acids that reduces inflammation and lubricates the skin.

    8. If you use a toner, go easy on the alcohol, as it dries your skin. globase_mediaMoist Hydration Mist from glominerals is a blend of antioxidants and anti-aging benefits in a mist that hydrates instantly. It will allow your foundation to glide on more smoothly. Spritz the skin before or after makeup application and to refresh the skin throughout the day. Use when skin feels dry, when exposed to dry climate conditions or when skin needs an instant burst of hydration.

  7. Here Comes the Sun

    June 25, 2010 by lbittenbender

By now, we all know that a “healthy tan” is not so healthy after all. Sun worshipping is out, but despite dermatologists’ best efforts, much of the population still doesn’t lather on the sunscreen before heading out to the lake or the golf course, - or simply to the mailbox. Skin cancer remains the most common form of cancer, according to the American Cancer Society. Skin cancer is dangerous and deadly. It is also highly preventable.

With the sunny days of summer, (especially in our high altitude), it is a fitting time to take a look at the options for treating sun damage, and learning how to protect your skin against the sun. There is no excuse to suffer from sunspots, and wrinkles, let alone cancer.

    Adonis Aesthetics skin care recommendations:obagi-medical-logo

Obagi: medical grade skin care product. This is at the top of the list for restoring your skin from sun damage and helping to protect the fight against skin cancer. It has the American Cancer Society seal.

NeoCutis: Swiss medical grade skin care product. This product has processed skin cell proteins (PSP). The power of PSP combined with environmental protection help fight photoaging.

young_bottlesYoung Pharmacueticals: medical grade skin care product. Retinoids used in the Young Pharmaceutical products are used to treat photo damage.

Colore Science: Medical grade mineral powder. This make-up line helps protect your face and body with one of the purest mineral make-up lines around. This powder has an SPF 20 and has the American Cancer Society seal.

  8. Another Bright Idea

    June 23, 2010 by lbittenbender

When you think of the idea of “bright” skin, what image comes to mind?  The look of your cheeks after a brisk walk?  Or the sun kisses glow after an afternoon at the lake?

According to the beauty industry skin brighteners are those that make your skin look “luminous,” “younger,” “glowing,” “younger,” “radiant,” “younger,” “brighter.”

We all know the term “younger” is consistently used to describe the outcome of beauty regimens.  When we were “younger” we didn’t have the stress, hormones, work and sleep deprivation that leads to dull skin.

Skin brightening, not to be confused with lightening or whiting, is about combating the things that dull the skin – oils, dead skin cells, dryness and so forth.

Skin brighteners are designed to lighten the pigment of your skin, removing discoloration, dark spots, and other dark blemishes.  If you have acne scars or other troublesome spots that are making your skin look blotchy, a skin brightener can be a valuable asset to your makeup routine.  These illuminating skin treatments also have anti-aging properties.  These can help minimize the appearance of fine lines, and ingredients can help to promote healthy cells and a smooth skin surface.

The happy news is that you can recover your healthy glow with a variety of options that work to help reveal a fresher complexion.

  9. Summer 2010 Makeup Trends

    June 21, 2010 by lbittenbender

Summer is a great time to simplify beauty routines. Many people become more active in the summer months and do not have time to adhere to a makeup routine that takes more than ten minutes.
